Geothermal deployment

When used for geothermal energy, steel pipes must meet stringent requirements with respect to quality and pipe connection technology. The casing pipes are between 10 and 14 metres long and have diameters between 114 and 473 millimetres. The largest pipe weighs 2.2 tons. For the geothermal energy project in St. Gallen, Debrunner Acifer is supplying a total of 1,475 tons or 17,710 metres of steel piping. This is equivalent to the capacity of around 70 trucks. Depending on the manufacturing process and diameter needed, Debrunner Acifer sources the steel pipes from various steel mills in Europe. The majority of the pipes were transported by train and the rest by truck.
